The practice nurses can deal with many minor illnesses and are happy to provide telephone advice and consultations. They perform the majority of the cervical smears in the practice. They can also treat cystitis, advise on common childhood illnesses and minor injuries. If in doubt, please ask for their advice. They generally have ‘same day’ appointments. They will involve the GP if necessary.
All the nurses also take a very active role in Health Promotion. They all provide cervical smears, dietary advice, travel advice, contraceptive advice, blood pressure checks, well person checks and teenage health advice, along with dressings and wound care and immunisations. In addition, certain nurses have special areas of interest.
- Nurse Emma Kennedy RGN (f) – Practice Nurse
Nurse Prescriber and Nurse Team Leader. Emma also runs the Diabetes clinic and Coronary Heart Disease clinic.
- Nurse Karen Mackenzie RGN (f) – Practice Nurse
Karen runs the Asthma Clinic and also the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinic. She performs asthma checks and can advise and prescribe for asthma problems.
- Nurse Jenny Yalden RGN (f) – Practice Nurse
Jenny is an experienced nurse who runs the Asthma clinic. She performs asthma checks and can advise patients regarding any asthma related problem. Jenny has also completed a Diabetes Diploma and cans see Diabetic patients. You can also book in with her for dressings, Coronary Heart Disease clinic and general nursing duties.
- Ms Nicola Bradford RGN (f) – Practice Nurse
Nicola is an experienced nurse and has an Asthma & Sexual Health Diploma. She performs asthma checks and can advise patients regarding any asthma related problem. She can also offer patients advice regarding any sexual health related query as well as carrying out all general nursing duties.
Mrs Heather Church (f) – Healthcare Assistant
Heather assists the nurses by helping with blood pressure checks, performing ECGs and carrying out blood tests. Heather also sees patients eligible for their initial NHS Health Check appointment.
Mrs Karen Dodds (f) – Phlebotomist
Lindy Snell (f) – Phlebotomist
You can make an appointment for a blood test by contacting Reception. They also run the CoaguChek clinic for patients on Warfarin.
Community Midwives and Nurses
Amy Paisley RGN RM (f) – Community Midwife
You will usually meet Amber early in a pregnancy. She sees patients at the surgery. In the postnatal period, she visits at home and helps with any problems. She can be contacted at Cirencester Hospital on 01285 884 561. All GPs also provide antenatal care and are happy to advise on breast-feeding problems.
The attached district nurses are based at the surgery from 08:30 until 16:00. There is a sister and an auxiliary nurse available during the day. If you need the district nurse to visit after you are discharged from hospital this will normally be arranged from the hospital. In all other circumstances where you think the nurse is needed, please telephone 0300 421 6072. Outside the above usual hours, please call 0300 421 0555.

Working as part of a South Cotswold GP practice locality project, Claire and Vona work with the practice to support frail patients in their own home. They also work with other local practices.
Mrs Jude McKenna RGN (f)
Health Visitor for children under the age of five.
Speech Therapy clinics are held at Fairford Hospital each week. Referrals are made through your GP.
Mrs Gillian Reed (f) – Audiologist
Gillian holds a clinic in Fairford Hospital each month. You will need to be referred by your GP.
