As you know, as part of your diabetes annual review, once a year we should check a urine sample to look for small amounts of protein that can indicate early kidney problems.
We are now offering a new NHS funded service to allow patients to do this test in their own home – with a home test kit and a smartphone. This service is already running in other areas of England with great success and we plan to commence the service here early September 2021.
If you meet the criteria, patients with diabetes will receive a text message (or a letter if no mobile) about the new testing process that is run by a company called Healthy.io. This text is not a scam; you do not need to pay for the service, and if you would rather opt out of the process you can say so at any time as you can still bring in your urine sample to the practice if you prefer.
